Native to Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Matricaria Chamomile (also known as German Chamomile) is now widespread throughout most of Europe and readily colonizes abandoned land as well as untreated fields. Wild or cultivated species, chamomile is harvested in summer, in full bloom. It owes its name to the Greek Chamos (because it grows close to the ground) and Melos (because its flowers have a scent similar to that of the apple). The name of the genus Matricaria comes from the Latin matrix, -icis “1. reproductive, female, 2. matrix” and from the suffix -arius, -aria, alluding to the virtues of the plant. Recognized for its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. It will be very effective against inflammation of the skin, digestive tract, and respiratory tract. It is also used in case of skin or seasonal allergies.
